New York Wine
You probably wouldn't guess it but
the second biggest wine producing
state isn't out west. Nope. Not south either.
Look north and east. Yep. New
York .
Surprised when you think of New York
winters? Well New York wineries are pumping out more quality
wine than ever. They focus on cooler climate types like pinot
noir, Riesling, some chardonnay and local varieties.
The Finger Lakes area in western
New York has the most vineyards. Its terrain and climate are
a lot like Germany 's Rhein region . . . the hillside vineyards
get the most out of the short growing season.
Out on Long Island you'll find some
merlot and cabernet too due to the milder ocean influenced climate.
And don't forget New York state sparkling wine as affordable,
wines perfect for the snacks at brunch.
So if you take a bite of the Big
Apple, there's homegrown wine to wash it down.
Pop the cork™.
