The Wine
Experience
Barolo and Barbaresco
In northern Italy, in the shadow of
the Alps, is the Piedmont.
Here you'll find the pride of the Piedmont
and some say the finest wines of Italy - Barolo and Barbaresco.
Even if you don't speak Italian you'll
be saying "Molto Bene" when you have one of these beauties. They're
100 percent Nebbiolo wines, a grape that gives complexity a new
name . . . with layers of flavors that keep emerging as the wine
matures.
Production is pretty small, so prices
are pretty high.
Barolo is arguably the king of Italian
wine with massive fruit and structure. This wine can age for decades.
Barbaresco is like a first cousin. It comes from lower altitude
vineyards which ripen earlier . . . a bit softer but no less powerful.
Barolo and Barbaresco rival the best
of Bordeaux or California Cab.
Decant these wines or open them a few
hours before drinking to release the big flavor, and then savor
the beautiful floral aroma and wallop of taste.
Molto Bene!
