BYO
BYO. Remind you of a college party?
Well, actually, a lot of restaurants will let you "bring your
own." And bringing your own wine to a restaurant can be a great
way to enjoy what you like.
Don't count on doing this all the time
. . . but there are special occasions or the occasional special
bottle looking for a good excuse to open.
So here are some guidelines for BYO
next time you dine out:
Call first. It's best to make sure
that bringing your own is an acceptable practice where you're
headed
Let them know it's special to you
Ask about charges. Most places charge
you a "corkage fee" to open and serve your wine, but that's fair
since they lose the sale from their wine list.
And be a good
tipper. Your server is doing something a little extra for you.
Special nights, special dates, special
bottles . . . BYO adds a little extra to your wine experience.
Pop the cork™.
