Quiz: Which European Country Has the Most Acres of Vineyards?
Nearly everyone
guesses France. Those that don't go Italy. But neither
is right. It's Spain - with more vineyards than either of
the others.
Interestingly,
though, Spain only produces about half as much wine. Not that
they're stingy; it's just that Spain has a drier climate and lower
yields from the vines.
But the wines?
Terrific! Tempranillo is the most high-profile grape, like
what cabernet is to France.
Look for wines
labeled "Crianza" or "drink now" and you'll
find a luscious red that you can take home and drink the same night
. . . and they work with a bunch of foods.
Don't tell all
of your friends because these are some of the best values in the
wine shop.
